Romania’s President denies health issues: I am only sick of thieves, and this is not treatable

16 October 2014

Romania’s President Traian Basescu denied having any health problems after part of the Romanian media launched the speculation that he has had health incidents.

"There hasn't been any health incident. I suffer from one thing: I am sick of thieves, and this is not treatable," Basescu said in a short press conference he held before flying to Milan to attend the Aria-Europe summit.

His reaction came after Romania TV news station said that the President allegedly suffers from Parkinson’s disease and that he has had two strokes recently, for which he went to Vienna for treatment.

Basescu denied that and said that he authorizes the ten doctors who performed his annual medical exam this year to talk to answer any journalist who might be interested in his health.

Romania TV is owned by Romanian businessman Sebastian Ghita, one of the new “media moguls”, who’s also one of Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s strongest supporters.
