Romania's President promulgates law on parental leave allowance
President Klaus Iohannis passed yesterday the law that removes the RON 3,400 (EUR 762) ceiling for the parental leave allowance.
The old law provides that the parents who stay at home with their newborns get 85% of their salary from the state, up to a maximum RON 3,400, if they stay at home one year, and up to RON 1,200, if they stay two years.
However, the new law allows them to earn 85% of their actual salary and stay with their children for two years after they are born. The MPs voted the new law at the end of March.
President Iohannis expressed his hope that the new labor minister Dragos Pislaru would find ways to implement the new law. Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos previously said that the state didn’t have money to implement the new provisions.
