Romania's rail carrier wants to buy new trains worth EUR 500 mln
Romania's rail transport company CFR Calatori wants to acquire new electric multiple units and diesel multiple units worth EUR 500 million, said Iosif Szentes, the company’s general manager.
The project, which will be financed with EU funds, needs to be completed by 2020 and implemented by 2022.
The company would like to buy the trains from local rolling stock producers such as Astra Vagoane Calatori Arad or Softronic Craiova, said Szentes, reports local Capital.ro. However, CFR Calatori is limited by the high number of units that need to be produced during a short period in choosing the suppliers.
“Any public tender takes a lot, so we should be glad if we conclude the contract by the end of the year,” the general manager added.
The selected supplier would then have four years to deliver 70 to 100 new electric and diesel trains.
CFR Calatori also wants to modernize 30 wagons with money from its own funds. The costs reach about EUR 9.2 million.
