Romania's railways company CFR plans 400 investment projects this year

Romanian railways company CFR has planned 400 investment projects in the railway network, which are worth EUR 4.7 billion.

In the first six months of this year, the company has completed six large works, for which it has spent EUR 291 million. It also relaunched 58 projects, worth over EUR 2.8 billion.

CFR also prioritized 333 investment and current repairs projects, financially supported from its own funds.

This year’s projects aim to rehabilitate and electrify 825 kilometers of railway, and to rehabilitate 234 bridges, culverts, tunnels, viaducts, and overpasses. The projects are funded with EU funds, and co-funded with budget money.

Among the projects completed in the first six months, CFR managed to modernize the railway station in Arad, west of Romania. It is now the most modern railway station in the country.

The company also rehabilitated the railway segment between Arad and the Romanian-Hungarian border during this period.
