Romania's Remar Pascani revamps first of 15 trains for the Republic of Moldova

08 June 2012

Romanian rail stock producer Remar Pascani, part of the Grampet group, recently delivered a first Diesel train, refitted and rebuilt in Romania, that will run in the neighboring Republic of Moldova. This is the first of the 15 trains Remar Pascani is rebuilding for the Moldovan Railways. The train cost EUR 2.2 million.

Remar is also under negotiations to revamp 100 trains in the Community of Independent States (CIS).

After the first train revamping for the Republic of Moldova, the maintenance costs for the model dropped four-fold, leading to a cost reduction of minimum EUR 500,000 per train, each year.

Grampet, controlled by Romanian investor Gruia Stoica, includes 17 companies active in various railway related industries. The group currently works in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia, Germany and Austria. In 2010, Grampet had a turnover of EUR 125 million.
