Romania's Romtelecom and Cosmote get new CEO from parent company Deutsche Telekom
Greek company OTE, the majority shareholder in Romanian landline operator Romtelecom and in mobile operator Cosmote Romania, recently appointed Nikolai Beckers as CEO of the two Romanian companies. Beckers will replace Stefanos Theocharopoulos from the beginning of April this year, as he will move on as Group Chief Technology & Operations Officer within the OTE group. In Greece, Theocharopoulos will be leading a team of 6,000.
Beckers joins the Romanian subsidiary from T-Systems in France, a division of Deutsche Telekom,which is the owner of OTE, where he has been a CEO since September 2011. He started his career in 1989 and has held various management positions, among which CEO and president of Deutsche Telekom France, Managing Director of Deutsche Telekom Philipines, Financial Director of T-Online Franța. Beckers holds on MBA from the Koln University in Germany.
Theocharopoulos has been a CEO of Cosmote Romania since 2008, and became the CEO of Romtelecom too in 2011.
Cosmote Romania ended 2012 with decreases across revenues but with higher profits in Romania, the country which became the top performer among parent company's OTE's markets. The revenues drop in Romania was among the lowest, of 1.2 percent year-on-year, to EUR 464.8 million end – 2012.
Romtelecom upped its profit before taxes (EBITDA) last year by 11 percent, to some EUR 166 million, while its revenues were at some EUR 620 million, down on EUR 655 million in 2011.
