Romania's Romtelecom buys pay-per-view platform Muvix.ro
Romanian telecom company Romtelecom acquired the pay-per-view platform Muvix.ro from Mediafax Group and will incorporate it into its platform Dolce TV.
Muvix, launched in 2009, offers movies online, licensed from the Disney Studios and other independent movie production houses. The value of the deal was not announced.
Dolce TV will take over the content from Muvix and integrate it into its platform over the next six months.
“We made an exit from this business because online video is extremely expensive and the market is still shaping up, which requires permanent investments, especially after players such as CME and Romtelecom have invested in it. We thank the over 10,000 Muvix clients for having used our services and we wish success to Voyo and Dolce,” wrote Orlando Nicoara, the general manager of Mediafax Group, on his blog.
Romtelecom launched the Dolce platform in 2011 for movies, as well as live and recorded TV shows.
Some of the movies are free to watch, others available on subscription. Films on Muvix.ro are available with individual payment per movie, varying between EUR 1.5 and EUR 3.
