Romania's Romtelecom increases profit before taxes, sees more users for broadband internet
Romanian landline telecom operator Romtelecom recorded a pre tax profit of EUR 80.8 million in the first half of this year, a growth of over 57 percent year-on-year. The operator managed to increase profits while seeing revenues slightly down, by 4.8 percent, to EUR 316.5 million, it announced.
The number of clients for voice services was down by 6 percent, to some 2.4 million users, but the broadband internet services were more popular: a growth of 8 percent, to over 1 million users.
Romtelecom managed to bring the penetration rate of TV services to half of its clients base, even though the actual number of TV services users was slightly down, to a bit over 1.2 million.
The company's strategy will continue to offer packages, with the TV service at the core of this strategy, said Anastasios Tzoulas, executive financial director of Romtelecom.
Romtelecom is part of the Greek OTE group, which also owns Cosmote and Germanos in Romania.
