Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, the current number three in the WTA ranking, qualified to the semifinals of the Wimbledon Championship 2014. It’s for the first time in her career that she makes it so far up in the London tournament.

In the quarter final match on July 2, Halep beat Germany’s Sabine Lisicki in two sets, 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals she will play against Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard, number 13 WTA.

Bouchard was one of the surprises of the Roland Garros tournament this year, where she also made it to the semifinals, but was beaten by Russia’s Maria Sharapova. Halep played the final at Roland Garros, which she also lost to Sharapova.

The winner of the semifinal, which will be played on Thursday, July 3, will face a representative of the Czech Republic in the final, either Petra Kvitova or Lucie Safarova.
