Romania’s smartphone market will continue to grow this year reaching 4.4 million units, according to estimates of the Korean firm Samsung, the market leader, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

Despite this growth, smartphones sales don’t have resources anymore to grow by 60-70% per year like five or six years ago. The growth will amount to about 10% this year, said Cristian Cojocaru, head of the telecom division within Samsung Romania.

The slowdown takes place as the urban area is saturated with smartphones, and there are fewer people willing to move from a simple phone to a smartphone. Despite this, the share of people who use simple phones will remain high, namely around 40%, according to the Samsung representative.
