Romania’s state institutions to hire disadvantaged youth

26 July 2018

The disadvantaged young aged up to 26 years old can get hired in state institutions for a period of two years, according to a legislative project recently passed by the Parliament.

The project targets youth coming from the child protection system, those who need to support one or more children, or those who are or have been registered with the probation service. It is meant to help them integrate on the labor market but also to help with the workforce crisis.

The institutions that could hire them include the prefectures, the city halls and their subordinate departments. A total of 5% of the jobs in these institutions will be allotted to disadvantaged youth.

In order to get hired, those interested will have to register an application and go through an interview. Depending on the job they are applying for, they might also need to take a specialized test. At the end of the 24 months they receive a recommendation letter to help them in their next job application.

The employers who hire other candidates for the places destined for the disadvantaged youth could get fines of up to RON 1,000 (EUR 215).
