Romania’s tax agency wants to shame people and companies into paying their taxes by making the debtors list public

04 February 2016

Romania’s National Fiscal Administration Agency – ANAF will publish on its website the list with all the individuals and companies in Romania who are late on paying their taxes to the state.

The first list will be released in April and will include all the people and firms with overdue taxes at the end of March 2016.

The list will include all the individuals with more than RON 100 (EUR 22) unpaid taxes, according to an ANAF decree recently published in the Official Gazette. All tax categories will be taken into account, including personal income taxes as well as social and healthcare contributions (CAS and CASS). The list will display the debtors’ names, individual codes (CNP), and fiscal addresses.

A separate list will display the companies which are late in paying their taxes. Large companies with more than RON 1,500 (EUR 333) in unpaid taxes will be included in the list, as well as medium companies with more than RON 1,000 (EUR 222) overdue fiscal debt, and small companies and individual enterprises with over RON 500 (EUR 111) arrears.

The tax agency will notify the taxpayers about their overdue taxes in the first 15 days after the end of each quarter. The taxpayers are entitled to ask ANAF for clarifications on the debt levels within 5 days after getting the notification, or the debt stands as final.
