Romania's tax authority erases over EUR 180 mln of debt
Romania’s tax authority ANAF has cancelled taxpayers’ debts worth over RON 800 million (EUR 180 million), according to data from ANAF, cited by local Profit.ro. The sum included mainly late payment penalties.
Companies and individuals with arrears were able to submit requests to have some of their debts erased until June 30. Some of their liabilities, which included penalties and interest on their main fiscal debts, were deleted if they met certain criteria.
Taxpayers had to pay all their outstanding debts, which were due on September 30, 2015, until the end of March this year. They also had to pay 45% of their additional payment obligations, related to their main debts, until the end of June.
On average, ANAF deleted debts of EUR 10,000 per company, respectively EUR 650 per individual. The measure’s aim was to recover overdue taxes faster.
