Romania posted the highest trade deficit of this year in April, reaching almost EUR 900 million, as exports grew by 16.7 percent, while imports, by 13.1 percent compared to April last year, according to data from the country's Statistics Institute. The deficit was EUR 12.2 million higher than the month before. Exports reached EUR 3.3 billion in April, while imports, EUR 4.1 billion during the same month.

The trade deficit after the first four months of the year was of EUR 2.4 billion, which was a drop of 18.4 percent compared to the same period of 2010.  The first four months of the year brought exports of EUR 14.3 billion for Romania, while imports stood at EUR 16.7 billion. The bulk of exports was covered by cars and transport equipment and by other manufactured products, followed by raw materials, oil and gas, chemical products and food products. The structure of imports was similar to that of exports during the first four months of the year.
