Romania’s Transfagarasan, among seven riskiest roads in the world

The Romanian mountain road Transfagarasan in part of BBC’s list of seven of the world’s riskiest roads, together with National Road 5 - Madagascar, Rohtang Pass - India, Eyre Highway - Australia, Prithvi Highway - Nepal, Kolyma Highway - Siberia and China’s Guoliang Tunnel.

With a length of 90 km, Romania’s Transfagarasan earned the title of “best road in the world” given by the BBC Top Gear.

“If you like changing gears every three or four seconds, you know it's fun,” said Romanian Razvan Baba, cited by BBC.

The spectacular Transfagarasan road was built on the orders of Communist era dictator Nicolae Ceausescu between 1970 and 1974 to ensure a military strategic route through the mountains. It includes Romania’s longest road tunnel (887 meters).
