Romania signs EUR 4 mln contract for World Bank project to increase Transport Ministry efficiency
The World Bank and the EU will provide funding and technical assistance for increasing efficiency in the management of public companies from the transport area. Romanian Minister of Transport Alexandru Nazare has recently signed a financing contract for European funds, in a project through which the World Bank will provide technical assistance to the minister in the development of policies to increase administrative capacity.
The total value of the project amounts to some EUR 3.8 million (RON 16.7 million), without VAT, of which EUR 3.2 million (RON 14.2 million) is a grant from the European Social Funds.
“The World Bank’s assistance is a guarantee for the introduction, as soon as possible, of efficient management in public companies from the transport area,’ said Alexandru Nazare.
During this project, the World Bank will support the development and implementation of a general and integrated strategy for all types of transportation, which will also include the introduction of private management to companies that are under the authority of the Ministry of Transport. The World Bank will support the ministry’s communication activities on implementing the strategy, and will assist the Romanian Ministry of Transport in improving the evaluation of the cost recovery process on road and railway infrastructure.
The project also includes increasing the ministry’s capacity to evaluate cost effectiveness on investment projects, and the World Bank will provide support for the proper functioning of the Metropolitan Transport Authority.
