Romania’s unemployment rate slightly up in May

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Romania was estimated at 7.3 percent in May this year, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, according to recent data from the country’s statistics institute INS. The number is also slightly higher compared to the same month in 2013.

The number of unemployed citizens (aged 15-74) was estimated at 718,000 for May this year, up from 702,000 the previous month, but down compared to the 723,000 persons in the same month of 2013.

According to INS, men’s unemployment rate was 1.4 percentage points higher than the similar rate for women.

The unemployment rate for adults (aged 25-74) was estimated at 5.8 percent for May. The number of unemployed citizens aged between 25 and 74 accounts for 74 percent of the total, according to the INS data.
