Romania's Youth & Sports Ministry gets EUR 14 mln from gambling taxes
Romania's Ministry of Youth and Sports (MTS) will receive 2% of the gambling related taxes, starting February 2015, under the Emergency Ordinance 92/2014 issued on December 30, 2014.
The fees collected by the state from gambling amount to about EUR 700 million annually, so the Youth Ministry should receive about EUR 14 million. These resources will be used to support sport in Romania, said Youth and Sports Minister Gabriela Szabo.
"The allocation of gambling taxes for youth and sport is a common practice in all the Western Europe countries. I am thinking of the UK lottery contribution to financing the Olympic Games in London in 2012, or Ireland, where the lottery was founded to support areas such as sport, youth and health," Gabi Szabo said, cited by local Economica.net.
