Former Bacau mayor sentenced to four years in prison for bribery
Targu Mures Court of Appeal sentenced the former Bacau mayor Romeo Stavarache to four years in prison for bribery. The sentence is final.
The court also decided to seize over RON 307,000 (EUR 67,000) from the defendants Stavarache Romeu and Goian Liviu.
Between 2008 and 2011, the former Bacau mayor asked and received directly or via other people several amounts of money from investors in exchange for granting them public contracts, according to the prosecutors. Romeo Stavarache was mayor from 2004 until 2014, when prosecutors detained him.
