Romprest to invest EUR 12 mln in selective recycling system for Romanian capital Bucharest

11 April 2012

Cleaning company Romprest will invest EUR 12 million in a system that will enable selective recycling, transport and sorting of waste for recycling in Bucharest and Ilfov county.

The new equipment can process over 50 tonnes an hour, giving an annual capacity of 190,000 tonnes. Romprest will also invest EUR 5 million in a new vehicle fleet. The company has invested EUR 35 million since 2010 in its 600-unit vehicle fleet.

According to Romprest, the new equipment will cut landfill waste by 40 percent initially, and by 70 percent, by 2017. European laws require a 15 percent recycling ratio.

By 2020, local authorities have to reach a 50 percent recycling level for all municipal waste, according to the company.

Romprest, set up in 2001, now has 6,000 employees. It plans to add around 960 workers to its staff by August this year, and the majority have already been hired through a project to increase the occupancy rate in rural areas. The project had EUR 4 million EU funding.

Romprest's investments in the car fleet and in its workforce stood at EUR 70 million in the last 11 years. The company is currently working with 45 municipalities and with 5,000 private clients. Its turnover in 2011 was of EUR 79 million, and hopes to reach a 25 percent increase this year. Romprest provides cleaning services, facility management and waste management.
