Romania's ruling coalition MPs will refrain from no-confidence motion vote
The ruling alliance MPs will not participate at the no-confidence motion vote and only be present at the meeting to ensure the required quorum, said Liviu Dragnea, leader of the Social Democrat Party (PSD).
The PSD-ALDE ruling coalition has held a meeting on Monday, June 25, to discuss their strategy for Wednesday, June 27, when a no-confidence motion against the Government is scheduled for debate and vote.
Dragnea and ALDE leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu also denied rumors of any disagreements between the two ruling parties.
The PSD-ALDE alliance holds the majority in the Parliament. However, in case some MPs of the ruling coalition were to “betray” and vote for the motion, it could pass. Asked if he was afraid of disloyalty, Dragnea replied it was not about traitors, but about the opposition proving it could ensure the necessary number of votes.
The motion filed by opposition parties PNL, USR and PMP was signed by 152 MPs. However, at least 233 MPs need to vote the motion for it to pass, as the Parliament has 465 members.
