Salaries in education, up by 15% in Romania
The employees in Romania’s public education sector will get a 15% salary raise starting December this year, said Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta. This measure will help about 304,000 employees.
The total wage growth in education will amount to 26.7% this year, according to the PM. The salaries in the health sector have increased by 25% starting October.
“Education and healthcare should go together. There should be no differentiated salary increases for these two sectors,” said Ponta, cited by local Capital.ro.
The Government is currently working on a law that should set new rules for the public sector salaries, which is also likely to include new wage raises for certain categories. The salary increases in the public sector could also be related to next year’s Parliamentary elections.
There are currently 1.2 million people working in the public sector.
