05 March 2013

buna ce faci hello how are youA new season of Romanian cinema got underway in Spain yesterday (March 5 ) with a screening of Nicolae Mărgineanu's Un Bulgăre de Humă/A Clod of Clay. The 1989 film gives a fictional account of the friendship between two of Romania's great writers – Mihai Eminescu and Ion Creangă. It is part of a cycle of foreign language cinema running at the Valladolid public library in the Castilla y León region of Spain. Called Otras miradas, un mismo lenguaje, (roughly different views, same language) during March, the event will feature Romanian films.

Next up is the 2008 film Cocosul Decapitat/The Beheaded Rooster, directed by Radu Gabrea and Marijan Vajda. The film is set in an ethnically mixed community in Romania during World War II, and follows the adventures of a group of young people from the area.

Alexandru Maftei's more recent romantic comedy Bună! Ce Faci?/Hello! How Are You? finishes the season.

The films are screening in the Biblioteca Pública de Valladolid's auditorium; Cocosul Decapitat/The Beheaded Rooster is on March 11, followed a week later by Bună! Ce Faci?/Hello! How Are You? on March 18. Both films start at 19:30 and will be shown VO with subtitles in Spanish. Entry is free, but places are limited by the number of available seats.

The event is organized by the regional authorities, Junta de Castilla y León, with support from the Romanian Cultural Institute in Spain.
