Senate OKs quicker Romanian citizenship process for Romanian ethnics from other countries
The Romanian Senate yesterday passed a law proposal on granting Romanian citizenship to citizens of Romanian ethnicity from other countries and who know Romanian.
The law also allows them to keep their primary citizenship, as well as domicile in that country.
The proposal was adopted tacitly, and will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies, which has the final say on the project. In general foreigners who want to get Romanian citizenship have to comply with the following: to be either born and still live in Romania, to have lived legally in Romania for 7 years, or to have been married to a Romanian for 5 years, as well as show proof of legal means of supporting themselves.
They also need to know Romanian, have basic knowledge of Romanian culture civilization, and know the Romanian Constitution.
Via the new proposal, citizens of Romanian ethnicity from other countries will benefit from easier conditions to get the Romanian citizenship.
