The world's number one Serena Willimas defeated Romanian Simona Halep 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells tennis tournament in the US. The match lasted 68 minutes.

The American will thus play in the tournament’s semifinals, where she will meet Polish Agnieszka Radwanska.

Simona Halep won the Indian Wells tennis tournament last year, after a long final with Serbian Jelena Jankovic.

Halep and Willimas met eight times so far. The Romanian won only one game against Serena Williams, in November 2014.

Simona Halep currently ranks fifth in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world.

The Indian Wells tournament will end on March 20. It has total prize money of USD 6.1 million.
