Services sector has highest number of employees and companies in Romania

The services sector had 35.4% of the total number of employees in Romania and 46.7% of the total number of active companies, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The total number of active companies in Romania increased by 5% in 2017 compared to 2016, to 525,660.

The services sector had the highest number of companies, over 245,000, namely 46.7% of the total, followed by the trade sector with over 172,000 companies, industry – 55,000 and construction – 52,800.

The number of employees in the four sectors went up by 2.2% last year, to 4.08 million. Some 35.4% of the total number of employees worked in the services sector and 34.2% worked in industry. The trade sector had 21.7% of the total employees and the construction sector – 8.7%.

The trade sector had the highest share in the overall turnover of the four economic sectors, namely 40.3%, followed by industry – 34.9%, services – 19.3% and construction – 5.5%. meanwhile, the services sector had the highest share in the total gross result – 34.4%, followed by industry – 30.6%, trade – 28.2% and construction – 6.8%.

Industry drew the highest share of the total investments in the four sectors, namely 38.3%, followed by services – 32.7%. Investments in trade and construction accounted for 14.4-14.6%.
