Seven in ten of Romanians would not want Mahommed or Jesus Christ cartoons published in local media

17 February 2015

Almost 72% of Romanians wouldn’t like caricatures of Prophet Mohammed to be published in the press, as it would offend the Muslim community. Only 9.1% favor the freedom of expression in this case, shows a recent INSCOP survey made in the wake of the Chalie Hebdo terrorist attack in Paris.

An even higher percentage, namely 76.9%, wouldn’t like to see cartoons of Jesus Christ or other biblical characters published in the press, as these would offend religious people.

Over 45% of Romanians fear the possibility of a terrorist attack in Romania, after the massacre at the French magazine Charlie Hebdo in early-January. However, some 40% of Romanians are not afraid of a possible terrorist attack in their country.

The survey was conducted between February 5 and February 10, 2015, on a sample of over 1,000 people, at the request of Adevarul newspaper.

Rifles used in Paris terrorist attacks could have come from Romania.
