Several train routes in Romania delayed after thieves steal railway equipment

Trains coming to Bucharest through the Southern city of Craiova experienced delays of up to an hour or more, on Friday, after the cables that were part of the railway signaling equipment in the Chiajna-Grădinari area were cut and stolen, the Romanian Railway Company CFR announced, quoted by Agerpres.

The trains with delayed schedules were the ones coming from Craiova and from Timisoara, through Craiova.

The CFR trains that experienced delays were the IR 15990 and IR 1696, coming from Craiova and from Timisoara through Craiova. The IR 15990 had a 50 minute delay, while the IR 1696 had a delay of 90 minutes.

Trains circulating on the Bucharest – Constanța route were not delayed, the CFR said.

The CFR started replacing the stolen cables and repair the malfunctioning equipment after the police was done with assessing and fingerprinting the area.
