Shia LaBeouf movie filmed in Romanian capital running at Sundance and Berlin film festivals

25 January 2013

A film starring the already well-known actor Shia LaBeouf (in picture) and which is currently playing at the Sundance festival, was filmed last year in Romania. The pulp romantic drama The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, stars Shia LaBeouf, who plays Charlie, an American traveling to Romanian capital Bucharest, and Evan Rachel Wood, who plays a Romanian cello performer. LaBeouf's character falls in love with the Romanian girl and ends up risking his life for her.

The film premiered at Sundance festival, currently ongoing, and will also run at the Berlin Film Festival, between February 7 and 17.

Film director Fredrik Bond said he chose Bucharest for filming because he was looking for a place that hadn't been used much in movies before. “Charlie's journey is tough and romantic, so we needed a city with personality,” the director explained.

For her role in this film, Evan Rachel Wood had to learn a bit of Romanian, with a perfect accent, so she received expert voice coaching for the part.

Shooting for the feature length movie took place in Bucharest and at MediaPro studios in Romania last summer. Several Romanian actors such as Ion Caramitru, Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Spahiu and Corneliu Ulici also starred in the film.

Shia LaBeouf, 26, is known for his roles in the Transformers series and in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
