Central Romania city gathers over 200 artists for medieval festival
The 17th edition of the Transylvanian Fortresses festival takes place in Sibiu, in Central Romania, between August 25 and August 27. Over 200 artists from Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia and Latvia are expected at the event, alongside craftsmen from all over the country, according to the organizers.
The program of the event includes various parades, fireworks shows, crafts workshops, medieval music concerts, theater performances and events for children.
The festival’s opening parade will start on the city’s Cetății St. and go all the way to the Grand Square. All the artists invited at the festival will take part in the parade, as will four purebred horses brought to Sibiu from the Transylvania Horse Riding Club.
The Obscurus Orbis group from Latvia will perform during the first evening of the festival, when the night will end with a fireworks show delivered by Crispus. They will also stage the closing event of the festival.
Children can attend several interactive workshops, covering painting, music and theater, among others. They can also see puppet shows, delivered by independent artists or theater companies.
Throughout the duration of the festival, the public can attend medieval fights demonstrations, weapon and armor exhibitions, and theater or medieval dances performances.
