Romania’s Simona Halep, in top three WTA prize money leaders in 2017

Romanian Simona Halep, the best female tennis player in the world according to the WTA rankings, won total prize money worth USD 5.27 million this year, ranking third in the WTA prize money leaders list.

American Serena Williams tops the ranking with USD 5.46 million, followed by Spanish Garbine Muguruza with USD 5.43 million.

The top ten is completed by Danish Caroline Wozniacki with USD 4.78 million, American Sloane Stevens with USD 4.05 million, Latvian Jelena Ostapenko – USD 3.99 million, Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova – USD 3.9 million, French Caroline Garcia – USD 3.42 million, Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina – USD 3.26 million, and British Johanna Konta – USD 2.93 million. Simona Halep earned total prize money worth USD 20.73 million during her career so far, which places her at number 15 in the world. The WTA career prize money leaders list is topped by American Serena Williams, who got total prizes worth USD 84.46 million. Her sister Venus Williams ranks second with USD 39.9 million. Simona Halep received on Sunday, October 29, the WTA Year-End No.1 trophy, presented by Dubai Duty Free, as she will finish the year on the first place in the singles ranking of best female tennis players in the world. Halep is the first player from Romania to achieve the year-end No.1 singles ranking since the beginning of computer rankings in 1975. She is also the 13th WTA player to achieve this performance.
