Two people die after skydiving accident near Bucharest
Two people died on Sunday and another one suffered multiple injuries after a skydiving accident at the Clinceni airfield near Bucharest.
One of the victims, a 27-year old handball player, Andreea Nica, was at her first jump. She made the jump in tandem with 43-year old instructor Adrian Constandache, who had about 4,000 jumps in his career, according to Mediafax.
The other skydiver was a 49-year old businessman from Iasi, Dan Floroiu, who had performed over 100 jumps before. Apparently, he didn’t wait long enough before jumping and was too close to the tandem skydivers.
The three collided in mid-air at about 70 meters above ground and their parachutes got tangled.
Floroiu died on the spot while the young handball player and her instructor were taken to hospitals in Bucharest. Andreea Nica died later that day while the skydiving instructor was in serious condition after suffering head trauma.
Update: Medical sources announced that the skydiving instructor also died on Monday, but the Floreasca Hospital officials denied the rumours saying that he was still under intensive care, in a very bad condition, according to Agerpres.
