Small fire breaks out at Bucharest subway station, passengers evacuated

12 April 2016

The Piata Romana subway station in Bucharest was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out at one of the electricity panels filling the station with smoke.

Intervention teams from the Fire Department and the Ambulance service arrived at the scene. They extinguished the fire and took care of the people who needed medical attention. According to local Digi24, two people were taken to the hospital because they inhaled smoke.

The station was closed after the incident. However, the trains continued to run on that line, without stopping in Piata Romana station. The subway line 2 is one of the busiest in Bucharest, as it connects the Pipera-Aurel Vlaicu business districts to the center and the residential areas in southern Bucharest.
