Smoke-free places and cheaper healthy food, included in Romania’s health promotion programs
Romania’s public programs for health promotion and disease prevention should include actions such as increasing the number of parks, establishing smoke-free places, and making healthy food cheaper, according to the new Minister of Health, Patriciu Achimas-Cadariu.
These programs address the determinant factors that lead to unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, bad eating habits, and the lack of physical activity, which contribute to developing chronic diseases, the Minister said.
Some of the strategies included in these programs refer to increasing the number of parks and bike lanes, establishing smoke-free places, lowering the prices of healthy food products, and removing unhealthy food from vending machines.
According to the Minister, these programs must aim at raising awareness about healthy behaviors.
