Romania will host its first official snow kayak competition this weekend, in the mountain resort of Voineasa, in Valcea county. The contest, called Romanian Snow Kayak 2015, includes three events, for attendants over 16. The organizers, a company that sells nautical sports equipment, expect 50 boats line up in the snow kayak races.

The event will take place on Saturday, January 24.

Snow kayak or snow boating is a winter version of the water kayak competition, and it usually addresses experienced kayakers. The sport has been around since early 2000, with kayakers from Austria breaking the ice in the game.
