Software sales in Romania 15% of total IT market revenues in 2012, study shows

14 November 2013

Software sales in Romania represented around 14.9 percent of the country's USD 2.92 billion IT market, according to the Software and IT services in Romania study, recently published by ANIS and IDC.

The average annual growth rate of the IT market forecasted for the next five years is of 2.4 percent, while the software market is expected to record an increase of some 3.3 percent, in the current business environment.

Only 11 percent of the total software and services companies that responded to the questionnaire are registered exclusively as product developers. However, these companies generate around 30 percent of the total revenues, shows the study.

“60 percent of the companies we discussed with give less than 15 percent of the turnover to research and development activities, which are essential in creating software products, while 16 percent have no budget dedicated to this type of activity within the company,” said Laurentiu Popescu, Country Manager IDC Romania.

ANIS represents the interests of Romanian IT companies and supports the development of the software and services industry, as well as the growth of companies involved both in outsourcing projects and in developing proprietary applications.

The association was founded in 1998 and currently includes some 100 members.
