Mobile broadband internet connections reached some 12.7 million in mid-2015, up by 22% over the same period last year.

Most of them were based on subscriptions (7.4 million), whereas the rest were using prepaid cards, according to data released on December 10 by the local telecom market regulator ANCOM.

The number of new connections amounted to 2.3 million.

About 1.3 million people connected to the internet via 4G mobile connections in the first six months of the year, up by 400% over the same period last year. The mobile telephony sector in Romania had 22.7 million users after the first half of the year, up by 1.8% compared to the first quarter in 2014.

The number of people who accessed mobile phone services via a subscription grew by 7.8% year-on-year up to 10.1 million.
