Best Romanian photo in the Sony World Photography Awards 2015
Romanian photographer Auras Mihaiu won the Romania National Award prize for the best Romanian photo in the Sony World Photography Awards 2015 competition. His picture, which is called “Alesul oilor” (The Sheep Selection) shows a traditional Romanian shepherds’ ritual.
Mihaiu’s photo was named the best photo submitted by a Romanian photographer in the Sony World Photography Awards 2015, which is the largest photography competition in the world. The jury of the competition selected it out of all the photos submitted in the 10 open categories of the contest, dedicated to amateur photographers.
Mihaiu won a Sony a7 camera, and his photo will be displayed in the Sony World Photography Awards 2015 exhibition at the Somerset House, in London, between April 24 and May 10.
The organisers awarded 54 national prizes, one for each country that entered the competition.
Two other Romanian photographers made it to the final of the contest. Cosmin Bumbut is among the finalists of the Architecture section in the competition dedicated to professional photographers. He submitted a portfolio of images taken in 35 Romanian prisons.
Daniel Necula made it on the shortlist of the Enhanced Open section, one of the categories dedicated to amateur photographers.
