Sorrentino's multi- awarded La grande bellezza to premiere during film festival in Romania this March

11 February 2014

The Bucharest International Film Festival will this year open with screening Paolo Sorrentino's La Grande Bellezza feature length film, which was nominated for the Oscars 2014.

The festival BIFF, scheduled to open on March 26 and end on April 2, will organize screenings at the Studio Cinema, at the New Cinema of the Romanian Director within the Romanian Peasant Museum, and at the Cervantes Institute.

This year, the festival, in its tenth edition, will include new categories, such as Focus, which this year will be on Chile, and Giornate Degli Autori – this year with Venice Days, as well as the documentary film section, called Film in Film.

The festival will also highlight historic moments, such as 100 years from the start of the First World War, and 125 years from the birth of Charlie Chaplin.

La grande bellezza/The Great Beauty is a 2013 Italian film directed by Paolo Sorrentino, and focuses on a 65-year old aging socialite who once wrote a famous novel in his twenties, only to retire into a comfortable life writing cultural columns and throwing parties in Rome. He now recollects his passionate, but lost youth.

The film has won 20 awards, including four from the European Film Academy and a Golden Globe for best foreign film.

The film will also open on Romanian screens on March 28, after its premiere screening two days earlier at the BIFF.
