Specialist: 3 out of top 10 world hackers are Romanian
Three out of the top 10 users of a well known cyber crime forum are Romanians, and the country has at least three active botnets created by Romanians, said Gabriel Mazilu, deputy director of the National Cyberint center within the Romanian Intelligence Service SRI.
He said three Romanian hackers are among the top ten hackers who use that cyber forum. Mazilu however did not name the forum, nor the Romanians who are part of it.
Between 2011 and 2013, banking systems and digital commerce were the preferred targets for cyber attacks in Romania, according to Mazilu, quoted by Romanian media. Victims were usually from the US and UK, and the cyber crime networks varied in size, from as many as 117 - a group nicknamed Costea – to 7 – a group called Paunescu.
Romania's security is being impacted by cyber spying and by cyber crime, the SRI specialist added.
