State to launch tender for highest bridge over Danube in Romania

19 April 2017

Romania’s National Roads Company (CNAIR) has sent to the National Agency for Public Procurement (SEAP) the documents for the tender to build a suspended bridge over the Danube, connecting the Dobrogea region to the rest of the country.

The project, which is worth RON 2 billion (EUR 442 million), will be financed with EU funds, reports local Economica.net.

After getting the approval, CNAIR will publish the notice for the launch of the public tender.

The project will have a total length of 23.4 km and will include two sections, namely the main road Braila - Jijila, with a length of over 19 km, and the connection road DN22 Smardan - Maci, with a length of 4.3 km.

The suspended bridge over the Danube will have a length of 1,900 m, plus two side openings, one on the shore to Braila and one on the shore to Tulcea. It will be the highest bridge in Romania, because it will be built over the “maritime Danube”.

The bridge will have a height of over 47 meters. By comparison, the Calafat bridge over the Danube is 45-meter high.

This bridge will make it easier to get from Galati and Braila to Tulcea.
