State of Romania's cars is putting lives at risk - more than 20% are in 'imminent danger of accident'
Latest results from Romania's Automotive Registry (RAR) reveal that nearly 60 percent of cars on the nation's highways are not roadworthy. According to the RAR lives are being put at risk by the condition of vehicles on Romania's roads. In a study carried out on over 20,000 vehicles in the last three months, the RAR found that 59.3 percent failed to meet the minimum criteria for road-worthiness. Of those that failed, nearly half were deemed unsafe, because of faults with brakes, lights, chassis, tires and steering mechanisms.
RAR's inspectors also found that 20.4 percent of vehicles presented an “imminent danger of causing an accident.” Nearly 20 percent of all vehicles tested also failed to meet minimum pollution standards.
