Statistics: 61% of Romanian households own a computer and have access to the internet
A total of 61.9% of all the households in Romania have a computer, more than two-thirds of them being located in urban areas, according to data from the National Statistics Institute INS for 2015.
Slightly over 78% of the households in Bucharest-Ilfov region own a computer, the lowest share being registered in the North-East region – 55%.
Just over 70% of those aged between 16 and 64 have used a computer at least once. Most of the young people aged between 16 and 24 use the computer (91.8%), the figure being much higher than the one related to people aged between 65 and 74 – 26.1.%
INS data also show that the share of male computer users is higher than that of women’s: 72.1% compared to 68.2%.
A total of 61% of the households in Romania have access to the internet at home, almost 67% of them being located in urban areas.
In the Bucharest-Ilfov region, more than three out of four households have access to the internet, followed the West, North-West, Center, South-West Oltenia, and South-Muntenia. The North-East (53.2%) and South-East (54.1%) regions register the lowest share of households with access to the internet.
Most of the connections used to access the internet are the fixed broadband connections (89.1%), followed by mobile broadband connections (29%), and narrowband connections (11.6%).
Based on regions, most of the households that have chosen fixed broadband connections are located in Bucharest-Ilfov region (15.4%), in the North-East (14%), and South-Muntenia (13.9%). When it comes to mobile broadband connections, Bucharest-Ilfov again ranks first with a share of 15.8% of the total households in this region, followed by South-Muntenia and South-West Oltenia (14.3% each).
