The unemployment rate in Romania was estimated at 7.2 percent in March 2014, unchanged from a year earlier, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The total number of unemployed people estimated for March is 724,000. The jobless rate is higher among men, at 7.8 percent, and lower among women, at 6.4 percent, the statistics show.

INS calculates the unemployment rate according to international standards. The statistics include people between 15 and 74 years old who don`t have a job, are available to start working in the next two weeks and have been actively searching for a job in the last four weeks.

The total active population of Romania is little over 10 million people, of which 4.37 million people are officially employed.
