Statistics show 70,000 new unemployed in June, but lower month-on-month rate

Official unemployment went down in Romania in June this year compared to May, although as many as 70,500 people were officially recorded as unemployed in June, according to data from the National Agency for Workforce Occupancy.

There were 680,700 unemployed people at the end of June in Romania, down 21,000 people a month before. This triggered an average unemployment rate of 7.44 percent in June, down 0.23 percentage points on the previous month. However, the unemployment was 1.44 percentage points higher than in June 2009.

The biggest unemployment rate is in the South Western areas of the country – 10 percent, while Bucharest has the lowest rate – 2.57 percent.
