Study: Most Romanians are afraid of buying a house or car in the next quarter

12 November 2012

The majority of Romanians - 69.8 percent - consider the upcoming period of three months as being extremely unfavorable to purchasing a house, according to a study by Reveal Marketing Research. Slightly more, some 71. 5 percent, think it's the wrong time to buy a new car.

"Romanians have become more responsible and are more reluctant to make a major investment, like buying a house or a car. Even when they need to buy a car, the trend for choosing a second hand vehicle observed in recent years is continuing," said the general manager of Reveal Marketing Research Marius Lucian.

Although reluctant to shell out for a new house or car, Romanians think differently when it comes to consumer goods. Over 40 percent think that the next three month are the right time for consumers goods, such as laptops (13.9 percent), refrigerators (12.2 percent) or washing machines (12.6 percent).

As for vacations, two out of 10 Romanians say they are planning to get away in the next three months; many appear to be choosing domestic destinations.

Reveal Marketing Research's Confidence Index was created using CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews). Data collection was made between October 29 to 31, on a sample of 1,200 people, men and women, over 18 years of age and a nationally representative sample of urban and rural residence. The study is conducted monthly, totaling 14,400 respondents annually. The calculated margin of error is + or - 2.84 percent.
