Study: Most Romanian drivers also use the phone, eat or smoke while driving
The Romanian drivers admit to doing several other activities while driving or when they are stuck in traffic, according to the LeasePlan Mobility Monitor study.
Most of the Romanian drivers (71%) use the phone while driving, a quarter eat, and 19% write text messages or use chat apps. Moreover, 18% of them drink and 14% smoke.
In Europe, an average of 74% of the drivers uses the phone while driving or when they are stuck in traffic while the global average stays at 69%.
The study also reveals that the percentage of women who apply make-up behind the wheel in Romania is double the global average (4% in Romania vs. 2% globally).
Some 18% of the drivers in Romania flirt while in traffic, higher than the global average of 12%. All of the women drivers in Romania aged between 35 and 44 said that they have never flirted with other drivers while in traffic. Meanwhile, 34% of the women from the Y generation (born between 1982 and 1990) flirted at least once while being stuck in traffic. A similar percentage (35%) was also registered in the case of men aged between 25 and 34.
