Seven in ten Romanian employees work overtime
Almost 70% of the employees in Romania work overtime, either at the office or at home, according to a survey by BestJobs, one of the biggest online recruiting platforms in Romania.
However, only 9% of those who work overtime say they do this out of passion for what they do. Meanwhile, more than half of the employees who work overtime say they do it due to the big workload, 27% do it because of pressure from employers, who see extra time as a proof of their employees’ involvement, and 10% do it to achieve better performances than their colleagues.
The survey also shows that employees find it easier to work at home, due to technological progress, which allows them to access the work email remotely for reading emails and answering them.
Employees in middle-management do the most overtime. Some 80% of these employees say they work at least half an hour more than their program every day while another 15% say they do more than one hour of overtime every day.
IT specialists, engineers, employees in the financial sector and those with liberal professions (architects, consultants, designers and lawyers) are most likely to work more than 8 hours a day. However, only 22% of those who do overtime say they are also paid for this.
The survey was carried out between August 15 and September 30 on a sample of 1,230 urban respondents.
Only 2 out of 10 employees in Romania are loyal to their employers
