Subway to add second restaurant in Romania, in Cluj's Iulius Mall
American fast food chain Subway, which announced its Romanian market entry earlier this year, will open a second restaurant in the country in the city of Cluj – Napoca. The unit will be located in the Iulius Mall shopping center in the city, owned by Romanian businessman Iulian Dascalu. Subway's first restaurant in the country, in Iasi, will be in Palas, a retail project also developed by Dascalu. The Iasi restaurant will open in April this year.
The first Subway plans for Romania were announced in 2010, when the company said it was planning to open shop in Romania and Croatia, but the announcement of the first locations was further pushed to 2012.
The company has opened units in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Slovakia and Croatia. Subway currently runs 36,000 restaurants in 98 countries. Its worldwide competitors are McDonald’s Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, among others. The first three are also present on the Romanian market.
