Supreme Defense Council approves NATO combat aircrafts in Romania

04 September 2014

Two decisions were taken at the meeting of the Romanian Supreme Defense Council (CSAT) organized yesterday, according to the Romanian President Traian Basescu. One of the decisions is related to the presence of combat aircrafts of NATO member states on Romanian territory, as well as 200 troops and maintenance personnel. The second decision refers to the possible participation as coordinator state in NATO’s Ukraine support fund project, in the area of cybernetic defense.

“There were discussions about the presence of combat aircrafts of NATO member states in Romania – by rotation of course, not all at once. We’re talking about combat aircrafts that are part of NATO’s integrated system of defense and that, alongside Romanian aviation, are to ensure air police,” said Basescu.
